Community over Code

From September 11-14, 2025, the Apache Software Foundation's annual Community over Code](https://communityovercode.org/) conference took place in Minneapolis. As the original initiator of Apache StreamPipes, now a top-level project of the Apache Software Foundation, a representative from Bytefabrik.AI was sure to attend.
Community over Code takes place once a year and brings together developers, users, and interested parties from all over the world to discuss the latest developments in the open source world. From Apache Kafka and Apache Airflow to projects such as Apache PLC4X, the conference covers a wide range of topics and offers a great opportunity to learn about not only the big projects, but also smaller, up-and-coming ones.
Dominik Riemer presented the Apache StreamPipes project in a talk and introduced the latest developments and use cases. The focus was on numerous new topics that the Apache StreamPipes team implemented in 2025, including:
- Pipelines and adapters as code alongside the graphical user interface, ideal for CI/CD and versioning
- Harmonization of Data Explorer and Live Dashboard, including kiosk mode for publicly accessible dashboards
- Improved OPC UA connectivity with advanced security options (e.g., certificate management), code editor, and support for extension objects
- Asset Browser for better organization of assets and associated StreamPipes resources such as pipelines and adapters
In addition, there are many minor improvements such as role management with OAuth 2.0, initial support for multiple languages, new processors such as LLM integration, and connection to external systems such as Milvus.
In addition to the presentation, there were numerous opportunities to learn about new projects and exchange ideas with developers from other projects.
And there was another highlight: Community over Code was also the venue where the new Apache Software Foundation logo was unveiled for the first time.
